How To Obtain Your Marriage License
Here’s How it Works!
Be at least 18 years old
Gather the required documentation. This includes:
Valid government-issued photo ID for both applicants (driver's license, passport, or military ID)
Social security number
Full names of both applicants' parents (including full middle names) as they appear on their birth certificates
Visit the circuit court clerk's office in any Virginia city or county. (You and your partner must both be present to apply for the license.)
Pay the applicable fee. Cash, credit cards, and debit cards are accepted.
Complete the marriage license application:
This application will ask for basic information about you and your partner, such as your names, addresses, dates of birth, and social security numbers.
Sign the application and have it witnessed by a clerk or deputy clerk.
Receive your marriage license. The license will be valid for 60 days from the date of issue.
